The difficulty lies in finding the right kind of land that fits all our wants, as well as our needs. We need land large enough to build 3 houses on it, with a large south facing hill to build into, and would like enough land to have some wooded area for us to play paintball, and clear areas to grow food and other plants. Our hopes and dreams are big,
Ok, I will admit it. I am a major geek. I love to learn, and I love to do things that most people would not consider mainstream. And one of those things is wanting to buy a hobby farm. I want a nice piece of land, not to far away from Newton and my family, where we can build a house for me and Dale, one for Mom, and one for Crystal too. Where we can raise some animals and grow food, as well as make stuff to sell. The houses we want to build would be considered Earthships, which are very awesome! Built using rammed earth inside used automobile tires, as well as cans and bottles for non-load bearing walls, these types of homes are very Eco-friendly and self-sustaining. When used with solar and wind energy, and the reuse of water and containment of waste, these homes provide for all our needs, without a monthly bill, other then the mortgage, lol. I was researching house building about 4 years ago when I came across this particular way of building, and have been in love with the idea ever since. The fact that it is Eco-friendly, cost effective to build, and self sustaining had me hooked from the start.

I always wanted to build a Earthship home, I thought of the tires but then I started reading up on earthbags, so easy to do and if you use the cat food bags that are more plastic then paper, they work. My only problem now is health issues and trying to do it myself would be a huge challenge. Also the building codes may not permit? Good luck to you though I hope it all comes to pass just the way you envision it!
