We have a little over $800 in the bank so far for our down payment we are trying to save up, hoping for $5,000 in the next year. I've done the calculations, and since January, I've collected over $500 in cans from people at work. Which is awesome! Some of that money went to a car payment and bills, but most of it is in the bank right now. Which means, that I have almost made an extra paycheck over the last 10 months by doing almost nothing. I think that I have spent maybe 10-12 hours in total, at maximum, collected and redeeming the cans at our local redemption center. And since ours pays back the $0.05 deposit rather then paying per pound, $500 for a day or two of work is pretty nice.
The best part is I barely have had to ask people to give me the cans. I started out with just the people in my section of the building, then my sister's friends, and when word got out as to why I was saving cans, people have been saving their cans for me, along with their good wishes, all on their own. Makes me feel really good to know that the people I work with care. They see it as a neat way to give to others, and they always ask for updates on how much the last redemption put in the savings account. They like knowing that even though it may have only been a nickle or 2 a day, that they were a part of something that has helped someone else so much. Progress may be slow, but it is certainly steady!
Blessed Be!
